Our Review of River Cruising on the Douro

A few years ago, we had the pleasure of booking a river cruise on the Douro. What we still vividly remember is the dramatic landscape that you’ll see when gliding along the riverbanks. Terraces of vines held in place by drystone walls rise in ranks high up the mountainsides while hawks and falcons swoop overhead.

We loved indulging in great wines and even better food. We brought more than a couple of red wine home with us after tasting them in small Portuguese vineyards.

One of the main sights that truly took our breath away was the massive Castelo de Ansiães. Covering almost 10,000 hectares it is made of solid granite! It’s truly magnificent.
