This scenic river cruise on the Rhine manages to tick off four countries in just eight days. We begin with spectacular scenery in Switzerland, before popping over to France (via the Black Forest) for a tour of Strasbourg. Germany’s river valleys, Riesling vineyards and cathedral cities are next – a voyage along the UNESCO-listed Upper Middle Rhine Valley is a real highlight. Then we round things off in the Netherlands, admiring the gabled merchants’ houses and bridge-crossed canals of Amsterdam.
Titan Travel VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Basel. Upon arrival, embark MS Serenade 1 (4T), where light refreshments are available. A welcome cocktail and captain’s gala dinner are served this evening.
Day 2 - Basel (Mount Rigi)
Photo-worthy views of Switzerland’s mountain scenery are on the cards today. We take a coach down to Arth-Goldau station, then journey up the slopes of Mount Rigi by cogwheel train. At the top, there’s plenty of time to roam around and soak up the scenery. Vistas from the various viewpoints up here sweep across the rolling hills of the Mittelland and snow-dusted Swiss Alps, with sunlight glistening on the waters of a dozen-odd lakes. After riding the train back down, we take a steamboat across Lake Lucerne to its namesake city. You have some free time to explore, before we head back to Basel by coach.
Day 3 - Breisach
Having cruised across the border into Germany overnight, we awake in the pretty town of Breisach. We’ve got most of the day here – spend your time exploring the town, or join an optional trip through the Black Forest to Lake Titisee, a beautiful glacial lake with a backdrop of wooded mountains. As well as cruising the lake, we take a guided walking tour in Triberg.
Day 4 - Strasbourg
Delve into the UNESCO-listed old town of Strasbourg today. Discover its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses on foot and by boat, with an expert local guide bringing the centuries-old sights to life. One of the city’s highlights is its cathedral, a 15th century Gothic masterpiece with sky-scraping spires.
Day 5 - Mainz - Lorelei Passage - Koblenz
Today begins in Mainz, Germany’s capital during the reign of the Romans. Tour the rose-pink cathedral and view the collections in the Gutenberg Museum and Landesmuseum at leisure; or journey south for an optional walking tour of Speyer and its 1,000-year-old cathedral. We set off early this afternoon to begin our cruise down the Lorelei Passage (one of the narrowest stretches of the Rhine) and through the spectacular scenery of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. We arrive in our next port of call, Koblenz, in the early evening.
Day 6 - Koblenz - Cologne
We continue to Cologne, with the option to join an optional walking tour or explore under your own steam. From museums to medieval churches, cathedrals to café-lined squares, there’s plenty to see.
Day 7 - Amsterdam
We glide into Amsterdam around lunchtime today. As well as seeing the sights by coach, we board a canal boat to see the city’s beautiful bridges and famously wonky townhouses from the water. The captain’s farewell gala dinner is served this evening. We remain moored here overnight, so if you have a chance, go for a walk along the canals after sunset, when strings of lights illuminate the bridges.
Day 8 - Amsterdam- UK
We transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
