Over the last few years, we’ve been very lucky to have been invited to several Amadeus ship christenings. What we value the most about Amadeus River Cruises is their ethos of how they run their business and more importantly, how they value their customers.
Unlike other river operators, Amadeus River Cruise is a family owned company. For more than 40 years, the Lüftner family have steered the company through calm and sometimes choppy waters. Over the years, they have become well-known for their small fleet of custom designed river ships. Very recently, Amadeus has also been awarded the ‘Green Certification’ seal of approval by ‘Green Globe’ for sustainable tourism. They are the only river cruise operator to have the seal of approval. We think that their eagerness of using as little natural resources as possible will see new innovations in their upcoming release of new river cruise ships.
Amadeus River Cruises: Accommodation
The cabins on an Amadeus River Cruise ships are always very elegant. The tone of colours is very soft and quite sophisticated. The motto is less is more.
The lower deck cabins are some of the most inviting on the rivers. The new fleet of ships have the windows at a height that makes for a light space. You would happily lie on the bed and watch the enormous flat screen television. Or you can spend time reading on the large under window seat.
With cabins on the lower deck offering either no or very low single supplements, they are no longer a ‘second-choice’ option for a client who doesn’t want to share.
Amadeus River Cruises: Dining
As mentioned before, we’ve been on several Amadeus river cruises in the past. The food has always been excellent.
The beautiful breakfast buffet offers a great variety of choice for both continental and North American palettes. Alex had hardly sat down before a beaming smiling waiter – we’ve never seen an unsmiling Amadeus waiter or one that wasn’t wanting to have a little joke – had offered her coffee and an omelette or eggs in anyway her heart desired. They really are some of the friendliest staff on the rivers.
Lunch tends to be a buffet. In our experience, it’s pure heaven. We especially loved the waffle station. The chef prepared us some beautiful Belgium waffle with sour cherries.
The formal dinner is also very delicious and offers guests to try out some very good wines. Again, for us, the highlight was the desert of brandy snap and summer fruits.
Amadeus River Cruises: Facilities
The Amadeus fleet offers their guests health and fitness facilities. You can enjoy exercise and yoga classes. The choice is really yours.
Every evening, guests can look forward to listening to local musicians as well as expert talks focusing on the area you’re currently visiting. Their theme and folklore nights are always very popular among their guests.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available to ensure you can keep in touch whilst away if you wish.

About Christine Foulds
I’m originally from Germany and traveling has always been a part of my family’s DNA. Over the past 20 years, I’ve lived and worked in 5 different countries (USA, Austria, Russia, Peru and the UK) and learnt to speak 3 foreign languages (Russian and Spanish are getting a bit rusty though). I thoroughly enjoy working with travel enthusiasts who like to explore and visit new parts of the world as much as I do.
