Your walking discovery tour of the medieval town of Passau features many of Old Town’s architectural gems, as well as an extra special holiday treat—an opportunity to learn how to make gingerbread and elegant floral centerpieces. In the evening, enjoy a Captain’s Welcome Reception and a festive Christmas Eve dinner onboard. Later, you are welcome to head back ashore to attend Midnight Mass at St. Stephan’s Cathedral.

Then head to Oberndorf, where the beloved Christmas carol “Silent Night” was performed for the first time.

Explore charming Grein, with its 15th-century castle and delightful little jewel-box theatre built in 1791, which retains all of its original features—including a box for Napoleon. Later, you’ll be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience—a private cocktail reception at a 13th-century castle, hosted by an Austrian princess descended from the royal Habsburgs.

Day 5: Melk, cruising the Wachau Valley, Dürnstein

Melk Abbey was a significant centre of learning for many centuries, and its extraordinary library was the inspiration for the acclaimed novel The Name of the Rose. After visiting Melk, cruise through the beautiful, UNESCO-designated Wachau Valley to the village of Dürnstein, where you’ll stop for a warming cup of spiced wine and enjoy a delightful organ concert.

Day 6: Vienna

Included excursions: Choice of exclusive “Vienna, City of Arts” tour OR exclusive “Taste of Christmas” walking discovery tour, and exclusive Mozart and Strauss concert at a Viennese palace

Take a panoramic tour of Vienna’s must-see sites, stopping to view the city from the splendid Belvedere Palace. Afterwards, head to the Art History Museum to see the treasures on display in the Kunstkammer (“cabinet of curiosities”). Or, opt instead for a special walking discovery tour that features chic boutiques, tantalizing shop window displays and samples of decadent Viennese confections. This evening, you’re in for another treat—a Mozart and Strauss concert inside a private Viennese palace.

Note: The Art History Museum is closed on Mondays. If the tour lands on a Monday, Albertina Museum will be visited instead.

Overview

The S.S. Maria Theresa offers three full decks with elegantly appointed public areas designed with one goal in mind: delighting guests. Similar to her sister ships the S.S. Antoinette and S.S. Catherine she will have the whimsical Leopard Lounge with its unique leopard print furnishings, elephant-head bar rails and many other safari-themed touches. There will be a beautiful mosaic-tiled pool and spa area. The main baroque restaurant will feature an al fresco outdoor dining terrace further enriching the dining experience as guests sail through the inspiring countryside. There will also be a bistro restaurant where guests can experience dining in a cozy atmosphere.

The signature touches for which Uniworld has become known-inspiring original hand-selected art, classic furnishings, old world antiques, marble, and clever use of mirrors can be found in the various public areas along with different hues of green, brown, beige, and gold adorning the walls and floors throughout.
